NAPLES, Fla. – Wellfit Girls, a five-month leadership, fitness and empowerment program for teen girls, is expanding its programming in Collier County piloting a new summer camp for incoming 8thand 9thgrade students and a new fitness focused program for 9thgrade students at Palmetto Ridge.
Wellfit Adventure Camp is a three-week camp that aims to support students in the transition from middle school to high school. The morning sessions take place in Naples from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. July 15-18 and July 22-25. Camp activities include team-building, small group discussions, yoga and fitness training. The camp will culminate with a five-day, four-night expedition to Cloudland Canyon State Park in North Georgia from July 28-August 1.
The summer camp was made possible courtesy of a grant from Swinging with Purpose, a 501c3 organization that provides support to grassroots organizations serving the needs of women, girls and children in our community. To date, Swinging with Purpose has granted more than $750,000 in monetary and in-kind donation to Southwest Florida charities.
Leaders in Fitness Training (LIFT) is an eight-month fitness and wellness focused program for 9thgrade girls. In September 2019, Wellfit Girls will pilot the LIFT program at Palmetto Ridge High School. Students will work with a personal training one time per week learning the basics of strength training, yoga, running and nutrition. LIFT culminates with a 7-day expedition to the Appalachian Trail during Collier County Spring Break in March. The purpose of this program is to incorporate healthy living habits into the everyday lives of teens at an earlier age.
“Over the course of the past year, we have worked diligently to create a new comprehensive youth development model that allows us to build deeper relationships with students, go more in depth with our curriculum and create a life-long positive impact,” says Colby Robertson, Wellfit Girls Executive Director. “We are excited that the community is embracing our new programming allowing us to offer opportunities for middle school students and students at Palmetto Ridge for the first time.”
Wellfit Girls, founded in 2014 by Jill Wheeler, provides unique and meaningful leadership, fitness and empowerment programs for teen girls in Collier and Lee County. The comprehensive youth development model is designed to build resiliency and deepen relationships with youth through fitness & leadership training, community service, cultural immersion experiences, outdoor adventure & experiential learning opportunities. Each program concludes with a domestic expedition that guides teens through a combination of physical, mental and interpersonal challenges designed to prepare them mentally, physically and emotionally to overcome past, present and future obstacles.
